If you had the chance to save a man from being murdered, would you? Well that’s exactly what local attorney, Atticus Finch did.
While Finch was in the Maycomb Jail, a group of four cars pulled up to the jail. Then in ones and twos, a group of suspicious men came out of the cars. When they approached the door, Atticus was already there. They told him he knew what they wanted. What they’re referring to? Tom Robinson, a local black man accused of rape.
That was when I grabbed my shot gun, I just knew things were going to turn ugly. Atticus then warned them that Mister Heck Tate was around. However, they called him off on a snipe hunt, so he wasn’t anywhere around.
After a short exchange of words, three children ran through the men to Atticus. I could tell it caught him by surprise. I couldn’t hear the exchange of words going on between Atticus and the three children. But then, something unbelievable happened. One of the men grabbed the biggest child by the collar and yanked him. And then, out of anger, the little girl kicked the man in the groin, causing him to fall back in pain.
Then a conversation occurred between the little girl and Mister Walter Cunningham (one of the suspicious men). Well, not really a conversation, more like the little girl rambling on and Walter replying once. She was talking to him about his son. After she was done talking, Walter replied, and the group of men left. Atticus then assured Tom Robinson he was safe and left.
I see why those men wanted to kill him. They believed they were doing justice by avenging the victim of rape. However I find it wrong, because there is no evidence against Tom, making it wrong to kill him.
After seeing that whole occurrence, I would like to praise Atticus Finch and those three children for their tremendous bravery. They defended that poor man and possibly saved his life.
